The loofah comes from a plant of the pumpkin and courgette family, it grows in height and its fruits are edible only when they are “young”.
The loofah is a completely vegetable sponge, derived from the drying of the homonymous vegetable belonging to the Cucurbitaceae family.
The fruit is mainly used as a vegetable sponge, as at the moment of complete ripening it dehydrates, losing most of its weight. What remains is only the fibrous body which constitutes the spongy part.
The loofah is a very special plant: it is a climbing cucurbit (practically a pumpkin) that produces a fruit from which a sponge is obtained, very useful both for cleaning the house and for use in the shower.
